Install fail2ban malicious activity scanner on a Raspberry Pi

I recently configured a Raspberry Pi web server and wanted to add an additional layer of security.

Fail2ban provides an automated log file scanner which checks for malicious activity and then IP bans the requester. It's a neat little tool that all home users should have.

Out of the box it monitors for SSH logins. I added some additional functionality because I'm using OwnCloud.

1) Log into the Raspberry Pi.

2) Install the Fail2ban software:

sudo apt-get install fail2ban

3) The OwnCloud forum has an excellent breakdown of how to configure Fail2ban. See here for deployment instructions.
